The Location
Fishergate Shopping Centre sits within the Station Gateway Quarter in the heart of Preston adjacent to Preston Railway Station. The city of Preston is located in the North West of England, 33 miles north east of Manchester, 35 miles north of Liverpool, 11 miles west of Blackburn and 25 miles south of Lancaster. The city benefits from excellent links with the wider North West of England being located at the intersection of the M6 motorway (north-south) and the M65 motorway (east-west). The city also has the benefit of the M55 motorway linking Blackpool and the M61 motorway linking to Manchester.
Importantly, the city is a mainline railway station on the West Coast line providing direct links to London with a fastest journey time of 2 hours and 28 minutes. It is the 3rd busiest station in the North West and the arrival of HS2 to Preston would reinforce the city’s role as the North West’s major rail hub north of Manchester. Preston was awarded city status in 2002 and fulfils the role of the administrative centre to Lancashire, with the regional and sub[1]regional offices of public bodies, banks, insurance and other major commercial companies. The campus of the University of Central Lancashire is located adjacent to the city centre and is delivering its masterplan 2020 which is a £200 million expansion program with new buildings being built on the main campus in Preston including the £32 million Engineering Innovation Centre (opened in 2019) and the £57 million Student Centre and New Square which is due to open in 2021.
